எங்கள் ஊர் காரைக்குடி, சிவகங்கை மாவட்டத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள அருமையான ஊர்.  எங்கள் ஊரின் பெருமைகள் பல. அருமையான கோவில்கள் நிரம்பிய ஊர், கோட்டை மாதிரி வீடுகள் அமைந்துள்ள ஊர் (‘ஆயிரம் ஜன்னல் வீடு’ என்ற ஒரு வீடு உண்டு!, ஆயிரம் ஜன்னல்களைக் கொண்டதால்!), நல்ல குடிநீர் வளம், இப்படிப் பல.

சரி  எங்கள் ஊர்த் திருவிழாவிற்கு வருகிறேன். எங்கள் ஊர்க் காவல் தெய்வம் அருள்மிகு கொப்புடையம்மன். காவல் தெய்வங்கள் எப்போதும் ஊர் எல்லையில் இருக்கும். அதே போல் கொப்புடையம்மன் கோவிலும் எங்கள் ஊரின் எல்லையில் இருக்கிறது. எல்லை என்றால் படங்களில் வருவது போல கிராமப்புற எல்லையைக் கற்பனை செய்ய வேண்டாம் இது நல்ல நகரம்! எனவே ஊரின் கடைக்கோடியில் இருக்கிறது! இந்தக் கோவிலைச் சுற்றிலும் நிறையக் கோவில்கள் உள்ளன. அதற்கப்பால் எங்கள் ஊரின் பேருந்து நிலையம். அதுவே ஊரின் எல்கையை நிர்ணயிக்கிறது! எனவே கொப்புடையம்மன் எங்கள் ஊர்க் காவல் தெய்வமும் ஆகும்!

வருடா வருடம் வைகாசியில் வரும் இந்தத் திருவிழா! ஊர்க் காவல் தெய்வமாதலால் அனைவருக்கும் மிகவும் அபிமானமான திருவிழா! வைகாசி மாதம் பள்ளி, கல்லூரிகளில் தேர்வு விடுமுறை என்பதால் சிறுவர், சிறுமியர் கூட்டத்திற்குப் பஞ்சமே இருக்காது! பெரியவர்கள், வயதானவர்களும் வெளியூரில் இருந்தாலும் விழுந்தடித்துக் கொண்டு ஊருக்கு வருவது உண்டு திருவிழாவை முன்னிட்டு!

திருவிழாவிற்கு பத்து நாட்களுக்கு முன்னர் காப்புக் கட்டுவார்கள். அன்றிலிருந்து திருவிழா முடிந்து ஒரு வாரம் வரை (காப்பு அவிழ்க்கும் வரை) ஊர் எல்லையைத் தாண்டிப் போகக் கூடாது என்பது ஐதீகம். ஆனால் காப்புக் கட்டும் சமயத்தில் ஊரில் இருந்தால் மட்டுமே இந்த ஐதீகம் செல்லுபடியாகும்! காப்புக் கட்டும் பொழுதில் வேறு ஊரில் இருந்தால் இந்த விதிமுறைகளைப் பின்பற்ற வேண்டும் என்ற கட்டாயமில்லை. இது பெரும்பாலான ஊர்களில் இருக்கும் ஒரு பொதுவான வழக்கம்! எல்லா ஊர்களிலும் திருவிழாவிற்குக் காப்புக் கட்டுவார்கள், குறிப்பாக அம்மன் பிரதான தெய்வமாக இருக்கும் ஊர்களில்.

எப்பொழுதும் செவ்வாய் அன்று திருவிழா. அம்மன் கோவில் என்பதால் செவ்வாய் விசேஷம். புதன் அன்று திரும்புதேர். (இதற்கு ஒரு கதை உள்ளது. இதைப் பிறகு சொல்கிறேன்). புதன் இரவு தெப்பத் திருவிழா அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து பாட்டுக் கச்சேரி, நாடகம் என்று ஊரே களை கட்டும்! மேலும் திருவிழாவிற்கே உரித்தான் விளையாட்டுப் பொருட்கள், பலூன், காத்தாடி, கண்ணாடி, ஊதுவான் முதலிய பொருட்களை ஒரு இரும்புக் கம்பியை அடித்தளமாகக் கொண்டு எல்லாப் பொருட்களையும் தனித்தனி கண்ணாடிப் பைகளில் (பிளாஸ்டிக் பைகள்) அடைத்து, அந்தப் பைகளை இரும்புக் கம்பிகளில் வசதிக்கேற்ப தொங்க விட்டுத் தங்கள் கடையினை (தற்காலிகக் கடை) அலங்கரிப்பர் முதலாளிகள்! அவரவர்க்கே உரித்தான் பாணியில் பீப்பியை ஊதி, பலூனை ஆட்டி எப்படியாகிலும் குழந்தைகளின் கவனத்தைத் தங்கள் பக்கம் ஈர்த்துவிட ஒவ்வொரு கடைக்காரரும் காட்டுகிற கதாநாயக பாணி (ஹீரோயிசம்) நிச்சயம் ரசிக்கத்தக்கது! ஒவ்வொரு வருடமும் நான் அவர்களைப் பற்றிய நிரம்ப யோசிப்பதுண்டு! அவர்கள் அந்தக் கடையினை, இரவு படுக்கும் போது எங்கே வைத்துப் பாதுகாப்பார்கள், எப்படி வேறு ஊருக்குச் செல்லும் போது எடுத்துச் செல்வார்கள் என்று என் சிற்றறிவுக்கு (அப்பொழுதும் எனக்குச் சிற்றறிவு தான்!) எட்டியவரை யோசித்துப் பார்ப்பதுண்டு. பிறகு அப்படியே வேறு எங்கோ கவனம் சிதறி விட, என் கருத்தாழமிக்க (!) சிந்தனைகளும்!

இன்றளவும் ஊருக்குத் திருவிழாவிற்கு எங்கள் வீட்டுக்கு வரும் பெரியம்மாவின் கைப்பிடித்து எல்லா இடங்களுக்கும் சென்று வந்தது என் மனக்கண்ணில் அப்படியே ஒளிர்கின்றது!   மிகவும் மனது லயித்துச் சந்தோஷமாகச் சுற்றித் திரிந்த நாட்கள் அவை! நிச்சயம் அவரவர் ஊர்த் திருவிழாவில் எல்லோருக்கும் இந்த மாதிரி ஒரு அனுபவத் தொகுப்பு இருக்கும்!

முன் பத்திகளில் சொல்லியிருந்த கதைக்கு வருகிறேன் இப்போது! திரும்பு தேரும் இங்கே வரும்.

காரைக்குடியில் இருந்து சுமார் ஒரு 8 அல்லது 10 கி.மீ. தொலைவில் உள்ளது காட்டம்மன் கோவில்.  (காட்டில் இருக்கும் அம்மன் என்பதனால் இந்தப் பெயர்). இந்தக் கோவில் இருப்பது ஒரு கிராமம் (பெயர் நினைவில்லை, ஏனெனில் எங்கள் அனைவருக்கும் பழக்கமான பெயர் ‘காட்டம்மன் கோவில்’ மேலும் யாரும் அந்த ஊரைப் பெயர் சொல்லி அழைத்ததாக நினைவில் இல்லை!). அந்த ஊரில் உள்ள அம்மன் (அம்மன் பெயரும் ‘காட்டம்மன்’ !) எங்கள் கொப்புடைய அம்மனுக்கு அக்காவாம். சொந்த அக்காவாம். வருடா வருடம் நாம் எல்லோரும் நம் பெரியம்மா, சித்தி, அத்தை வீட்டிற்கு ஆண்டு விடுமுறைக்குச் செல்வது போல, கொப்புடையம்மனும் தனது அக்கா வீட்டுக்குப் போகுமாம். கொப்புடையம்மனுக்குப் பிள்ளைகள் ஏதுமில்லையாம். ஆனால் காட்டம்மனுக்கு ஏழு அல்லது எட்டுப் பிள்ளைகளாம். எப்பொழுதும் அம்மன் தனது அக்கா வீட்டிற்குச் சென்று அங்கு தன் அக்காள் பிள்ளைகளுடன் பொழுதைக் கழித்து விட்டு ஓரிரு நாட்களில் எங்கள் ஊருக்குத் திரும்பி வருமாம் (காரைக்குடிக்கு!).

வழக்கம் போல ஒரு வருடம் குறித்த நாளில் கொப்புடையம்மன் தனது அக்கா வீட்டிற்கு கிளம்பிச் சென்றதாம். அப்பொழுது ஏனோ காட்டம்மனுக்குத் திடீரென்று ஒரு குழப்பம் தோய்ந்த சிந்தனை வந்ததாம். அது தன் தங்கைக்கோ திருமணமாகிப் பிள்ளைகள் ஏதுமில்லை. ஆனால் தனக்கோ குறைவில்லாது மழலைச் செல்வங்கள் உள்ளன. இதனைப் பார்த்து, நினைத்துத் தன் தங்கை பொறாமைப் பட்டு, வயிறு எரிவாளோ என்று சந்தேகித்துத் தன் குழந்தகைளைப் பெரியதொரு கோழிகளை மூடும் கூடையின் உள்ளே ஒளித்து வைத்தாளாம். இது எதுவும் தெரியாத கொப்புடையம்மன் வழக்கம் போல அக்கா வீட்டுக்கு வந்தவுடன்,  குசலம் விசாரித்து முடித்து விட்டுக் குழந்தைகளைப் பற்றிக் கேட்டாளாம். அக்காவோ குழந்தைகள் வெளியே விளையாடுகின்றன என்று பொய் சொன்னாளாம். என்றும் இல்லாத அதிசயமாக இருந்த கோழிக் கூடையைப் பார்த்துத் தங்கை கேட்டாளாம் அது என்னவென்றும் அதனுள்ளே என்ன வைத்திருக்கிறாளென்றும்.  அக்காவோ ஏற்கெனவே சொன்ன பொய்யை வலுப்படுத்த, “உள்ளே ஒன்றுமில்லை. கோழிக் குஞ்சுகள் தான் உள்ளன” என்று மேலும் ஒரு பொய்யைச் சொன்னாளாம்.

அக்கா, தங்கையாக இருந்தாலும் தெய்வமாதலால் தங்கைக்கு எல்லாம் தெரிந்து விட்டதாம் ஞான திருஷ்டியில்.  இருப்பினும் மனம் மிக நொந்தாளாம் கொப்புடையம்மன். அக்காளுடைய குழந்தகைளத் தன் குழந்தைகளாகத் தானே பாவித்து வந்தேன், பிறகெதற்கு என்னிடமே அக்கா பொய் சொல்கிறாள்? என்று குமைந்தாளாம். உடனே கோபமாக அக்காவைப் பார்த்துக் கூறினாளாம், “நீ எனக்குக் குழந்தைகள் இல்லை என்பதற்காக உன் குழந்தைகளைப் பார்த்துப் பொறாமைப் படுவேன் என்று எண்ணித் தானே உன் குழந்தைகளை ஒளித்து வைத்தாய்! எனக்கு இருக்கின்றனர் ஓராயிரம் மக்கள். ஆம்! என் ஊர் மக்கள் (காரைக்குடி) அனைவருமே என் குழந்தைகள் தாம்! நான் வருகிறேன்!” என்று கோபாவசேமாகக் கூறி மறு நாளே ஊர் திரும்பினாளாம். தங்கை ஊருக்குக் கிளம்பிய பின்னர், அக்காள் தன் குழந்தைகளை வெளியே வருவிக்க எண்ணி, கோழிக் கூடையைத் திறந்தாளாம். உள்ளே பார்த்தால், அத்துணை குழந்தைகளும், கோழிக் குஞ்சுகளாய் மாறியிருந்தனவாம்!

கொப்புடையம்மன் காட்டம்மன் கோவிலுக்கு (அக்கா வீட்டிற்கு) செல்வது செவ்வாய் அன்று. தேர்த் திருவிழா அன்று தேரில் அம்மன் தனது அக்கா வீட்டுக்குச் செல்லும். ஊர் மக்கள் அனைவருமே கோவிலில் ஆஜர் ஆகி விடுவார் தேர் வடம் பிடிக்கவும், தேர் காட்டம்மன் கோவிலுக்குச் செல்வதைப் பார்க்கவும். வழி நெடுக (ஊர் எல்லையைத் தாண்டும் வரை) ஆங்காங்கே மக்கள் அம்மனுக்கு அர்ச்சனை செய்வர். ஒரு ஐயரும் உடன் செல்வார்.  ஊர் எல்லை வரை மக்கள் செல்வர். அதற்கு அப்புறம் காட்டுப் பாதை (தற்பொழுது சிமெண்ட்ரோடுகள் போடப்பட்டு விட்டன, இருப்பினும் சிறு தொலைவு காட்டுப் பாதை வழியாகச் செல்வார்கள் என்று நினைக்கிறேன்! ) காட்டுப் பாதையில் செல்ல சில பேர் மட்டுமே (ஒரு பத்து, இருபது ஆட்கள்) வடம் பிடித்துச் செல்வர்.

மறு நாள் (புதன்) எங்கள் ஊரில் இருந்து அனைவரும் சைக்கிளில், இருசக்கர, நான்கு சக்கர வாகனங்களில், பேருந்துகளில் காட்டம்மன் கோவிலுக்கு செல்வது வழக்கம். அங்கேயும் அன்று திருவிழா. ஊரே கோலாகலமாக இருக்கும். அந்த ஊர் மக்களுக்கு அன்று திருவிழா. நாங்கள் அங்கே போய் காட்டம்மனைத் தரிசித்து விட்டு (கொப்புடையம்மனுக்கு அங்கே ஒரு சந்நிதி இருக்கிறது என்று நினைக்கிறேன்), அர்ச்சனை, பூசை செய்து விட்டு எங்கள் ஊருக்கு வருவோம். அன்று மதியம் தான் கொப்புடையம்மன் தனது அக்காவுடன் கோபித்துக் கொண்டு, எங்கள் ஊருக்கு நெஞ்சம் நிறைந்த பாசத்துடன் (முன்னை விட அதிகமாக) அதே தேரில் திரும்பி எங்கள் ஊருக்கு வரும். இது தான் ‘திரும்பு தேர்‘.

எங்கள் மீது அளவுக்கதிகமான அன்பு கொண்டு வரும் அம்மனை (அம்மாவை) ஆராதித்து வரவேற்பது மிகவும் விசேஷம்! விருப்பமான விஷயமும் அல்லவா?  கட்டாயம் திரும்பு தேருக்கு ஒரு அர்ச்சனை செய்வோம். அன்றும் பானாக்கம், நீர் மோர் தண்ணீர்ப் பந்தல்களில் விநியோகம் செய்வர்! திரும்பு தேரில் அம்மன் கோவிலுக்கு வந்ததும் அன்று இரவு தெப்பத் திருவிழா!

இப்படியாகக் கழியும் இந்தத் திருவிழா வருடமொரு முறை .

நிச்சயம் ‘திரும்பு தேர்’ என்ற வார்த்தையைக் கேட்டவுன் எங்கள் குடும்பத்தாருக்கு நினைவுக்கு வருவது என் தந்தை! அவர் உயிருடன் இருந்த வரை, எல்லா நிகவுகளுக்கும் அர்ச்சனை செய்யாமல் இருந்தது கிடையாது! எப்படியும் யாரும் துணைக்கு (நாங்கள், பிள்ளைகள்) வந்தாலும் , வராவிட்டாலும் அம்மனுக்கு அர்ச்சனை செய்வதில் குறையேதும் வைத்ததே இல்லை!

ஆனால் நாங்கள் காட்டம்மன் கோவிலுக்கு அப்பாவுடன் சைக்கிளில் பின்னால் உட்கார்ந்து சென்றது இன்றைக்கும் பசுமையான நினைவுகள். ஏனெனில் சிறந்த இலக்கியவாதியான என் தந்தை, நிறையக் கதைகள் சொல்லுவார். புராணங்கள், இதிகாசங்கள் பற்றிய நிகழ்வுகள் நாங்கள் கேட்டது இந்த மாதிரி தருணங்களில் மிக அதிகம். மேலும் வழி நெடுகக் கிடைக்கும் தின்பண்டங்கள், குச்சி ஐஸ், இப்படிப் பலவும் எங்களை இழுக்கும்!

நேற்று (செவ்வாய்) தேர்த் திருவிழா இனிதே நடைபெற்றது காரைக்குடியில். இன்று திரும்பு தேரில் அம்மன் எங்கள் ஊருக்கு உவகையுடன் வந்திருக்கும். நேற்று என் அம்மாவுடன் அலைபேசியில் பேசிய பொழுது அம்மா சொன்ன வார்த்தைகள் இவை, “இன்னைக்கு நம்ம ஊர் கொப்பாத்தா கோவில் தேரு ப்பா! நல்லா அம்மனை நெனச்சு சாமி கும்பிட்டுக்க!” தற்செயலாக‌ நான் அப்பொழுது தான் என் செல்பேசியில் என் அப்பா பாடி வைத்திருந்த அழைப்பு ராகத்தினைக் (ரிங் டோன்) கேட்டிருந்தேன்! அது எங்கள் ஊர் கொப்புடையம்மனைப் பற்றிய ஒரு பாட்டு! அதை என் அப்பா அவருடைய செல்பேசியில் அழைப்பு ராகமாக வைத்திருந்தார்.  அவர் நினைவாக நான் பெரும்பாலும் கேட்பதுண்டு!  (விருப்பமுள்ளவர்கள் அதனை இங்கே கேட்கலாம்,     http://4theparents.org இது பெற்றவர்களுக்கான பிள்ளைகள் செய்யும் ஒரு சிறிய கைம்மாறுக்காய் நான் அமைத்திருக்கும் ஒரு வலைத்தளம் ‘பெற்றோருக்காக‘! இந்த வலைத்தளத்தின் முகப்பில் (முதல் பக்கத்தில்) ஏற்றியுள்ளேன்.)

We have taken two on going appeals for the educational causes.

1. Distributing Uniform to the kids at Udhavum Ullangal, Adambakkam, Chennai. Udhavum Ullangal is an orphanage and provides shelter, food for 100+ kids, having two homes in Chennai one is at Adambakkam and another at Maraimalai Nagar. We as a team, had visited the Adambakkam center on 1st week of March 2011 and had distributed groceries to the kids. We planned to distribute Uniform dresses to the students and each set costs around Rs 250/-. For a total of 105 kids, the total estimated cost is Rs 26,500/-.

Though we had initially planned to get the dresses stitched by a tailor for providing a quality dress, due to various reasons we could NOT get it materialized. We had switched back to the decision of giving the readymade dresses which we had kept it as a last resort.

2. Distributing Notebooks to the school going children at Sevalayam (Madurai) and LOTUS, Salem. These two are our regular beneficiaries whom we help every month by sending around Rs 1,500/- to Rs 2,000/- every month from our SHaDE funds. Totally around 1000+ notes are planned to be distributed with our SHaDE logo and some motivational quotes on the either sides of the notes, it costs around Rs 28,000/- roughly.

Having these two appeals on hand, we thought of raising funds as I had always been hearing from people to let them know of such appeals as people have an interest towards such educational appeals.

Sorry for the delay in posting the same though I wish I could have posted it a week before. Some or the other way I was engaged with other activities and hence the delay.

Overall it was a good experience as I  had gone for the padayatra after 7 years break/gap! Fact not to be denied was the 7 years of IT life has contributed a lot in terms of health, stamina etc., . I used to do a good amount of physical activties, push ups etc., but for about 2 years could not do anything of that sort due to the present lifestyle!

The day before the yatra, I had stayed in office till 2 AM due to a release and reached home only at 3 AM. Due to lack of sleep and travel, had a good fever! . Had met the doctor and put 2 injections and then only started the yatra.

During the course of time though it seemed to be okay, I had been having a backpain and cold. So did NOT drink the tender coconut which is very essential and will be available aplenty. I remember a decade back when we used to go for the pilgrimage, on an average we used to drink 2 tender coconuts per day. Sadly, this time out of 5 days walk we had only one. Just one! .

Had been managing with few paracetamol, crocin etc.,  On the last day, looked like there was a blood clot on my left thigh due to which I could not really bear the pain and walk further. It was about 125 kms I had walked and rest 35 kms I was unable to.  Hence, I went by bus, which was never the case in our history! 

My brother had managed to come by walk and reached on time.

Differences I had seen over these years

1. Earlier the distributions (food, eatables, snacks etc.,) will just be available only on the initial 2 days and nothing would be available for the rest of the journey.   Hence, we used to preserve the food whatever we get without bothering the weight and manage with that for the rest of the journey. Otherwise survival was difficult . These years until pazhani there were more free meals (annadhanams), distributions which was a good sign I felt. It facilitates the people by all means! Lot more people are giving much more to boss (thalaivar  @ pazhani!) !! Vaazhga Valamudan!

2. Earlier these were no medical camps and aids provided. I remember in the year 2000 or so, the medical camps started operating. Now, there were good number of medical camps available for doing a good service for the devotees.  They used to apply the Turpantine Oil (White colour fluid) on the legs with which it smoothens the nerves and veins! Much appreciated and wonderful service!! May god bless them all abundantly! 

3. Worst part was the roads which were newly made, due to which pretty small stones were the obstacles for the efficient walking and it was more painful! . Earlier one or the other places it used to be. But this time every day we had such kinda roads for about 8 to 10 kms! Almost every diety was scolding the entire TN government for having done such a nasty roads on this time. Everyone knows that this is the time people go for walk! Either they would have put the roads few months back or they would have applied good amount of Tar which would have helped the stones to get settled down! Neither they did and the ultimate sufferers were the devotees!

Not to wonder, after reaching the target place (Iraakkaala Madam for our Nagarathars, which is very close the adivaaram), I had seen many such people who had broken the journey in the middle and came by bus all because of the road condition! Pathetic!

4. Out of all these years, we had a very great and wonderful dharshan of Lord Muruga this time. We could reach on time and had seen the Raaja Alangaaram (King style), Thanga Ratham (Golden Chariot) and also before going to Pallaiyarai we had seen the God just 2 feet in front of us! This was the first time we got a chance to see our boss this way! 

My brother had walked non stop 35 kms and reached Pazhani on time within 10 hrs. We have a calculation of 4 Kms per hour by walk. Average, 15 mts per km. It was all a bear foot walk.

During the yatra and even after returning I had got a nice scoldings from my brother, mom on the way I live my life and the fastings I have!  Too much and I could not digest . However as exactly my brother said, “A very good lesson learnt” and the boss teaches such lessons in a little hard way, so that we will never forget!!

5.  For the first time, I was out of internet, email, sms, phone calls, status, delivery, release, issues etc,.  Totally disconnected and hence saved the purpose of the trip! We intentionally did NOT carry any such devices. Also we follow the rituals and norms in a rigid way.

Few of them are :

• We never look at our face in the mirror (as it may deviate the intention of the yatra)
• We never lead any luxury life by all means — not even applying shampoo, combing hair etc.,
• We never have any callback (status update.. he he he ) to house members
• As Pazhani is a hill and we do fast (religious fasting and NOT refraining from having food), we never climb any temple which is on a hill. The very first hill temple will/should be Pazhani.
• Though we take bath every day, we used to wear the same set of clothes for all the daysjust to reflect the life what Lord Muruga has, as he  has gone out of anger because of the Wisdom Fruit (Gnaana Pazham) with his brother Lord Ganesha and he maintains a bachelor and kinda sanyasi life. Only after reaching Pazhani, we will wear a new set of clothes.

Overall, it was a very pleasant experience! Let us see how far the next year’s yatra goes!!

Another factor was, the stamina and health can’t be prepared over night!

Are you using any Ebook Readers? If so which one do you use and what is the best factor your feel out of your ebook reader? I am thinking to buy one and I thought I can get your opinion on the same.

If I google out, there are so many and I am slightly confused on which one to choose.

What are the parameters one should look at before buying a device?

Which one do you think stands at its best these days? I know this is very subjective and depends on various factors.

I got a Kindle just the WiFi version… I think it is very good and serves my purpose. The cost has also come down. I really love it. If you are keen on reading colourful magazines then nook is fine. Kindle has the e-ink technology that has less strain to the eye. So my suggestion go for kindle. But irrespective of opinions do an extensive research and find out what you need the most (between kindle and nook)

Upon asking about the price of Nook,

I got it from amazon for $139.

Nook is a product of Barnes and Noble… the book sellers.

I currently use the Kindle from Amazon. The 3rd generation one is pretty amazing device. Awesome battery life, great to read on for long hours, WiFi, 3G options. Plus bonus : Text to Speech (natural speech), Webkit Browser, MP3 / Music / Audio books player, On board QWERTY keyboard.

I am using this for last 3 months, and pretty happy with it. The form factor is easy to carry. I am pretty amazed by the battery life ( around a month of decent usage).

So my best bet for you would be a Kindle. Currently its a B & W with 16 shades of gray. Color is missing, but it really does not count if you are not reading colored books. It supports quite a good number of file formats including PDF, Word, MOBI, EPUB etc. PDF rendering is neat, but I support converting the PDF into the native format for all the benefits.

Overall a nice device. Ring me if you want more details.

best one is the kindle as it is the best for the eyes.. ipads and sony readers arent as good..

battery life is awesome as well and it is also reasonable pricewise!!

You sure want just ebook reader? And seriously, noone to recommend Adam? Of course, it cannt compete with Kindle as an ebook reader, but it should do the job pretty well and much much more than Kindle in other regards. Just for the heck of it, I would wait till Adam goes to full fledged production. It has been disappointingly delayed already. It does have eInk display (along with other options). It should cost a little more than Kindle, but its worth it.

I would suggest you a high end android mobile where you can install kindle software for free, with which you can double your mobile as a reader also and dont have the worries to carry 2 devices.

I hold a HTC desire, and installed the kindle on that, works fine for me
