Having been reading my favorite author Robin Sharma’s blogs (The author of excellent books entitled ‘The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari’, ‘Who Will Cry When You Die’, ‘Greatness Guide’ etc.,) through my subscriptions on his website and a few them are marked with ‘To Blog’ label in my Gmail inbox. This one was also more or less happened to fall in the same category, but there was a special request from the beloved Robin Sharma which explicitly requests the readers to share and spread this message across people.
I am obeying sincerely with no second thoughts. 🙂
Here you go.
I started off the first chapter of “The Greatness Guide” with “I’m No Guru”. Nearly every leadership presentation begins with me sharing my VHB (Very Humble Beginnings) and the fact that I am right out of the audience. In nearly every one of the thousands of media interviews I’ve done, I fight for the fact that I’m just an ordinary guy. Why do I do this? Because I never want you to think that I’m somehow different from you. I never want you to think that the practices I live by and encourage you to embrace so you get to your best in terms of leadership and success and personal development are not possible for you to do because I’m somehow cut from a different cloth. But today I make the change. I have to admit it. I’m special.
Now before your eyes glaze over and you begin to question why you read my blog each day, kindly stay with me. I’m trying to make a point here. And it’s a big one.
I am special. And here’s the beautiful thing: SO ARE YOU. Saying that I’m ordinary is to deny the gifts that have been given to me. And you classifying yourself as ordinary is to make the very same mistake. Let’s choose not to do it anymore, ok?
No one walking the planet today is ordinary. Yes, too many have forgotten that they have remarkable gifts living within them and extraordinary potential to craft strikingly great lives and the power to be the change that they most wish they could see in the world (to paraphrase The Mahatma). Yes, too many people have resigned themselves to mediocrity and coasting through their days because they actually have been seduced into believing the liars in their minds that are nothing more than the voices of their fear (aka doubt). Yes, too many people actually believe in the false reality that The Great Ones (in business, arts, sciences, society) are different (and smarter/faster/stronger/luckier…include your own Excuse of Choice here). But none of that’s Truth. Is it? (And Leadership is a Hunt for The Truth).
The glaring truth of the matter is so staggeringly clear to anyone who wants to open their eyes (and heart) wide enough to see it: you, me, the grocery clerk at your local grocery story, the cabbie in Colombia, the poet in Pukhet, the banker in Buenos Aires, the nurse in Nepal, the teenager in Texas, the farmer in Fredericton… Every single one of us who inhabits the planet this very moment is special. We have great gifts that long to be sculpted into our own unique form of genius. We have authentic power that aches to be awakened and then used for a worthwhile purpose. We have potential that – if realized – could profoundly elevate organizations and communities and nations…and so The World. There’s not a single person alive today that doesn’t have the potential to positively influence a cast of thousands if they get out of their own way (by breaking through their doubts, fears and excuses) and act as the person that they truly are. Please think about that idea. No extra people on this planet. We all have Calls on Our Lives.
So no, I’m not ordinary (and I will no longer disrespect myself by saying that; the words we use have staggering power to create our reality). And the thing that makes me just as happy. Neither are you. Remember that.
P.S. Please share this blog with all those you know who will benefit by it. It’s a pretty powerful idea I think – that none of us is ordinary. And an idea that has the potential to help someone see themself -and their ability to make a difference in a whole new way. I fiercely want to get this message out to as many people in as many countries as possible over the next 12 hours. Please help me to do so. Let’s work together here.
It does make sense. Right? In a way we are all *special* to save the purpose of our existence in the earth :). Let’s be more special hereafter and do many special things to the people around.
May be useful for people who are from Tamilnadu (India) and may travel via coimbatore (to and from).

Just wanted to correct the information… This already happened in 2003 and won’t happen again until 2208
Friends and Acquaintances
There is a difference between being an acquaintance and being a friend. An acquaintance is someone whose name you know, who you see every now and then, who you probably have something in common with and who you feel comfortable around.
It’s a person that you can invite to your home and share things with. But they are people who you don’t share your life with, whose actions sometimes you don’t understand because you don’t know enough about them.
On the other hand, a friend is someone you love. Not that you are ‘in love’ with them, but you care about them and you think about them when they are not there. The people you are reminded of when you see something they might like, and you know this because you know them so well. They are the people whose pictures you have and whose faces are in your mind and heart regardless.
Friends are the people you feel safe around because you know they care about you. They call just to see how you are doing, because a friend doesn’t need an excuse. They tell you the truth, the first time, and you do the same. You know that if you have a problem, they are there to listen. Friends are the people who won’t laugh at you or hurt you, and if they do hurt you they try hard to make it up to you. They are the people you love, regardless of whether you realize it.
Friends are the people you cried with when you got rejected from something you really wanted in life and during the last song at a farewell or funeral. They are the people that when you hug them, you don’t think about how long to hug and who’s going to be the first one to let go. Maybe they are the people that hold the rings at your wedding, or maybe they are the people who give you away at your wedding, or maybe they are the people you marry. Maybe they are the people who cry at your wedding because they are happy or because they are proud.
They are the people who stop you from making mistakes and help you when you do. They are the people whose hand you can hold, or you can hug or give them a kiss and not have it be awkward because they understand the things you do and they love you for them. They stick with you and stand by you. They watch you live and you watch them live and you learn from them.
Your life is not the same without them.

I believe you agree with me not just in the way you enjoyed reading through and also you find out how many friends Vs acquaintances you have got! Aint I? 😛
I am sure all of us would have passed this phase with no good reason or with some special reason deserving your feeling fresh mood!
Today i do feel so. Well, it is just nothing but my office PC has been given a rebirth. Sounds confusing? It is formatted and the OS has been reinstalled! :). Not just today, i do have this feeling whenever i happen to encounter this scenario. Perhaps the reason could have been the efforts taken to prevent this to occur and updating your antivirus, taking backup of your data etc.,
A new life you get after a long struggle…?
Everytime we do format your PC and reinstall your OS, mostly we tend to take some oaths as follows:
# Should install only the required software
# Should not keep/store the video/movie files in PC as they occupy more space
# Should keep the contents well organized
# More importantly, should keep my desktop clean! (lol, it deserves a special attention as i am sure most of us are bound to break this golden rule. Aint I? :)).
# Should update my anti virus frequently
# Should scan the files before i get them from any external media.
Well , the list could go on. I have something else as well. Right from beginning you got to take your backed up contents, installing the software, configuration, customization etc. During installation, there are chances you get a newer version which you might not have been really thinking of before the fresh start!
One such kind is the installation of ‘SeaMonkey‘ browser which i happened to see it in my roomie’s laptop and he installed it in his Ubuntu. It was nice enough and it insisted me to try as the Firefox 3 beta was very slow and poor. Really don’t know why but somehow firefox made me feel bad of it! :(.
The SeaMonkey is also from Mozilla but it looks so cool. Also have found out some more interesting information which i could post later.
i have also tried out downloading Ubuntu for the first time and installed it successfully using VMWare in my Windows XP.
Whatever it is, i am feeling fresh today! Aren’t you? 🙂
somehow, it is my 75th post here! 🙂 — yet another reason to feel fresh!? lol! 😛 Thanks to the new and improved WordPress administration, it shows the count in the dashboard once you login!
Wish you too have a “fresh time” ahead buddies!!
I think this very well deserves to be a post!!
I have been intimated in the comments either for having been given an award or tagged. Some samples are below.
I am sure neither me nor the individuals can easily track the post and its url now. Not just to divert the responsbility but a sincere request. As i could not immediately take it up by then, now i feel something is lacking! 😦
I would definitely thank you for having considered me :P, but it would indeed be of much help if the individuals just take a little effort to just paste the corresponding URL as well :).
Hope you agree with me. If you are game, kindly follow the same henceforth! 🙂
nowadays i have been ‘realizing’ many proverbs i would say. well, i may post those experiences in a separate blog!
this is an infamous proverb we might have been coming across since our childhood during several occasions and we happened to hear from many people around as well. ‘everything happens for good‘ – this might make us feel irritated and like adding fuel to fire when we are ‘in’ the circle! yes, i mean it.
when we say it to others, it may not matter but only when we ‘experience’, it will give a totally different shape.
Today i got a call from office saying that the filesystem reached its 100% in Production. Despite being a holiday, it does not matter when you are on a production support :). You have to be available on 24*7 basis as per norms. Well, i just told the network admin (aka system admin) to move the heapdumps, javacore files (they are the files which the Java process writes into the filesystem when the running java process reaches out of memory) to the external hard drive so that we can get some space. but even after that, there was no luck :(.
I came to office and i did the usual work around. I stopped the application server and cleaned up the temporary files as well by archiving the log files. And moved those archived files to the external hard drive. still no luck :(. It was stubborn and showing 99% :).
Had been thinking what would be the cause and somehow started into the tuning, troubleshooting documents. In the middle, thought of bringing the server up. But to my surprise, the server was not getting started and it was showing some errors in the linux console. After some attempts, thought of killing the process as usual and while doing so, by mistake i killed a different process named ‘EmailService‘ which was on top when i searched for the ‘java’ processes running at present in the system. Usually there won’t be any other services than our regular application server process and the corresponding node agent. Till now i have not seen this EmailService and it was not attracting me too. So i went ahead in killing the process and then i found out the mistake when verifying after deletion.
In the middle, i just checked for the memory usage, it went again upto 100%. Wondering what might be happening!
Thought i have done a mistake and have to get it corrected, searched for the process or its corresponding scheduler (cronjob in linux which is similar to the batch file in windows to automate tasks) for starting the EmailService. There we found so many core dumps generated in the EmailScheduler :). Lucky are we! After taking backup of those core dumps and deleting them, we got 24% free space and the disk usage was 76% !!
When asked the colleague about the issue during the startup of EmailService, he told one more infomation that this email service would be generating some pdfs as well. After some usual searches, we found out in a subdirectory there were some 7600+ pdfs silently sitting and occupying minimum of 1.1 MB each. Few of them had around 2MB size and very few had 20 MBs.. 🙂 So altogether we got some 700 MB+ space in disk.
Had the ‘EmailService’ not been deleted accidentally, we would have ended up somewhere else. Atleast we would have wasted some more time when dealing with the ‘Production issue’.
Overall, we should not panic about the issues rather we should welcome! 🙂 — is that what i feel now! wat say?
Well, there is no need to explain the 4 words series.. any1 wud easily get it.
Its the recent blog entry of ‘Robin Sharma‘, a great author of so many excellent books like ‘The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari‘, ‘The Greatness Guide‘ etc., Though i have been getting the updates from his blogs, this one triggered me to blog it immediately.
Just with Robin Sharma’s permission (:)), copy-pasting the content here. Anyways, the original URL is here -> http://www.robinsharma.com/life_coach_ic_blog_416.htm
Here You go..
The smallest of actions is so much better/braver/smarter than the biggest of intentions. Leadership is all about making good things happen. About getting great things done. About the translation of beautiful ideas into brilliant results.
We live in an interesting world. Too much overpromise and underdelivery. But world-class leaders/businesspeople/ human beings are different. Remarkably so.
They talk less. And do more. They are masterful at execution. They are acutely focused. On creating value. On what’s most important. On birthing their best into the world.
Have any of you seen or experienced a little controversy in this regard? If so, let me know! I am curious to know the facts falling on the other branch of the tree!
Today i just thought i can check the train tickets (from Bengaluroo to Singara Chennai) via IRCTC. All of a sudden when the page got opened i had two doubts
(i) whether the website had been blocked because of me browsing inside a corporate network – had it been such case, there would have been no wonders since its *not* a new thing!
(ii) whether i had typed the website url wrongly. since many times i happened to experience in seeing an unexpected website getting loaded because of some spelling mistakes (typo) in the URL. One good example is indiatimes website when i typed by swapping a single character as “indaitimes.com”, there was a matching website for that pattern 🙂 It happened in the year 2002!
But after looking at the contents of the page loaded, i happened to realize that the website look and feel had undergone a drastic change! soon after that realization, i just uttered “Cool..” (donno “Shivaji” effect or not.. sometimes it happens!). The site looks pretty cool and the efforts are appreciated towards the improvement. Obviously i felt very glad of having a change in the new apperance as it was so pleasant and not disgusting!!
Really don’t know when they have migrated, probably i might have been late ;-). But just for your perusal, pasting the screenshots of the homepage and welcome page.
Here is the Home Page..
Here is the Welcome Page once your login attempt is successful…
Whatever it be, “Change” is the “constant” term in the world! Right?
Lets welcome the change !!
Hope you too would like the new look if at all you use IRCTC 🙂
But only one thing really have NOT changed is, still i am getting the same old famous message “unable to retrieve due to communication failure” for my searching of trains between stations………;-((((
